  A lithium-ion battery balancer is a key functional component in a battery management system (BMS), primarily used to perform balancing tasks within a lithium-ion battery pack. In situations where multiple lithium-ion batteries are connected in series, slight differences between the batteries can lead to inconsistencies in the state of charge (SoC) and capacity of each battery within the pack. To ensure efficient, safe, and long-lasting use of the battery pack, a lithium-ion battery balancer is particularly important.

  The working principle of a lithium-ion battery balancer involves adjusting different batteries within the battery pack through differential current, making the voltage and capacity of each battery cell more consistent. This process includes transferring excess energy from high-voltage or high-SoC batteries to low-SoC batteries, or reducing the gap between batteries by consuming energy from high-voltage batteries. Balancers not only improve the overall capacity of the battery pack but also effectively prevent overcharging and over-discharging of battery cells, thus extending the battery's lifespan.

  Depending on the balancing method, lithium-ion battery balancers can be divided into passive balancing and active balancing. Passive balancing primarily consumes excess energy through resistors, while active balancing uses converter circuits to transfer energy, resulting in higher energy efficiency. In practical applications, active balancers are widely used due to their efficiency and flexibility.

  In summary, the lithium-ion battery balancer is an important tool for improving battery pack performance and lifespan. Through precise balancing control, it ensures the safe, stable, and efficient operation of the battery pack.
